The serene and gentle flow of the Trevi Fountain is surrounded by a hubbub of tourists flocking to take their photos, throw their coins and make their wishes. Fresh from a visit to Florence and Pisa, complete with getting ‘the’ photo holding up the Leaning Tower, Sharona’s family were now seeing the sights offered by Rome. I took a quick family snap for them and we got chatting. It seemed that Rome was not the only place that Sharona and I have in common – Sharona studies in my family’s home city, Liverpool.

What is it about travel that you enjoy?
To not stay in my hometown, because my home town is in Hong Kong and it’s a really busy city, so I like to travel and just get relaxed.
Can you tell me a bit more about your course, what you’re studying at Liverpool University?
I’m studying occupational therapy which is a healthcare course, and occupational therapy is trying to empower people to be independent. We help a range of people, for example with physical disabilities, mental health problems, and learning disabilities.
Can you see any similarities between Liverpool and Rome so far?
They have a lot of architecture and the buildings are really pretty.
And how about differences?
Italy is bigger, yeah, definitely.
There is a tradition of throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain and making a wish. What would your wish be?
To be happy forever!
